Tip of the Day: Preparing for an interview

What do you say when you are asked....
"What is your biggest strength?"

People often find this question hard to answer because it feels a bit like bragging, but remember you have strengths. Be ready to tell your employer about them.

Why do employers ask you this question?
  • Most employers want to know that you are reliable, come to work on time, learn quickly, get along well with others, are hard working, and so on.
  •  Here in Prince Albert the number one strength  employers say that they want is for an employee to be reliable and come to work on time for every shift.
  • It stands to reason that the most common reason for firing someone is that they do not come to work.
Focus your answer on being  reliability, attending work, honesty and the ability to get along well with others.  You have these strengths so make sure you tell people about them.  If it is not your strength right now, maybe its time to make it your new strength!

In an interview for a  delivery position you might say…
“ My strength is that I am 100% reliable.  When I am supposed to be someplace, I am there.  Because of that I get along well with my co-workers.  They know they can count on me to get my part of the job done. You can expect my deliveries to be on time if I get this job.”
Robert, Vocational Counselior
