Facts about Work

22/8/2019

  1. Employers are in the business to make money.  They do not expect to have to babysit employees.  There hire people to ne a solution to a problem; not to create one.
  2. To remain employed, you must be able to control your emotions. Anger, harsh words, gossip and violence are not problem solving techniques.
  3. A new job will create a new set of problems.
  4. You have to establish your own work stands. An employee must add value to a position and be productive on mad and bad days.
  5. Any job can be a good job and provide you with the opportunity to go. You must do first things first.
  6. There is constant change in some jobs; be prepared to deal with it.
  7. Almost any job can become boring. There will be things that you won’t like about your job. Don’t complain about it.  Accept and move on. If you must complain, complain for positive results.
  8. You must have commitment and willingness to work; the ability to do what you don’t feel like doing and doing it with a positive attitude.  This requires self -discipline.
  9. You must be willing to improve and develop your talents
  10. To become successful on a job, finish what you start, believe in yourself and most importantly, don’t give up.  - Ruth - Vocational Counselor

September back to school means back to work

20/8/2019

Its almost here, a new school year.  That will bring the kids back to a regular school day.  What can that mean for a job hunter?  September can be a great month to look for a job.  Here are some places to look:
  • Businesses that hire summer students: With Students going back to school some of the summer jobs that they had will be open for you to apply for.  Look at places that hire summer help and contact them right now to see if they will have opening in the fall.
  • Retail stores:  Back to school means business, some retail stores may be hiring staff to help now through Christmas, a great way to get your foot in the door is to see that store today to see what jobs they have for September.
  • Child care:  With older children going back to school younger children may need child care.  Places to advertise your services could be local websites or the traditional poster at your church or community centre.
These are just a few ideas, if you would like to have more information or help locating employment this fall call us at the Community Service Centre, we are looking forward to working with you.
