PARATRANSIT AND SENIORS TRANSPORTATION ADD GROCERY DELIVERY TO PANDEMIC SERVICE
Prince Albert, Saskatchewan

Seniors and Paratransit passengers will be able to place grocery orders from home and have the specialized transportation services of the Prince Albert Community Service Centre pick up and deliver groceries, household supplies and pharmacy orders.  The standard rates per trip will apply as usual.  “This is a way to help keep people safe during the pandemic phase” says Bill Powalinsky, CEO of the Centre “People who can’t go out or don’t want to risk possible exposure to the virus have an option for grocery, household supplies and pharmaceuticals delivery through a cost effective service through the regular fare system” says Powalinsky.
The community service centre lives its Mission – “… to provide services that enhance the quality of life to meet individual and community needs” says Gloria Mahussier, Board Chair for the Centre.  People registered with either service will book their pick-up as usual by calling the dispatch centre at 306-953-4466 for Access Transit and 306-953-4477 for Seniors Transportation.  People can call the centre to register for services.  Seniors Transportation customers simply have to be a senior aged 60 years of age or older and live within the city limits.  Passengers who cannot use the regular transit system because of the nature of a disability and live within city limits are eligible for Paratransit services.
“Its times like these that the community pulls together and we do what we can to help out” states Paratransit driver Tim Gelysteen.
Ridership has fallen off dramatically but the Community Service Centre will continue providing services under the essential services guidelines.  Routes and hours of service will be adjusted to meet the workload according to Powalinsky.  The public can track the changes by checking the centre’s website at www.pacsc.com, checking the Centre’s Facebook page or calling the dispatch office.
The Seniors Transportation service is funded in part by the City of Prince Albert, the “Two Miles for Mary” radio-thon and fare revenue with the standard flat rate of $5 per trip one way.  Access Transit is funded mostly by the City of Prince Albert, with the provincial government providing funding and fare revenue with the standard fare being $2.50 per trip.
