Everybody seems to describe what the word “community” means, in different ways. One definition of community is;” a feeling of fellowship with another as a result of sharing a common attitude of interest and goals”. If you were to define the workers here at the Community Service Centre you would find that we all embrace that word Community. We all strive to assist people with multiple barriers to find the full potential they all have inside.
Community should be about encouraging people to take ownership of their lives and their environment. The power to change a community comes from within the community. When a group of people that share common interests and goals decide that enough is enough change will happen. The art of being a community has been lost to some degree and people are not as considerate of each other as we once were. In this digital age we have forgotten how to interact with each other. We cannot forget that social interaction is important for change. You cannot take you cell phone into a job interview. It is ok to talk to people without the use of social media. It is ok to know who your neighbor is. One step to change is recognizing where you can step in and help. I would encourage everyone to evaluate what community means, and find a way to be involved and make a positive step forward in changing our community. “Ruth – Resource Coach and Change Champion”
