I hear this regularly, "there are no jobs!" I have to say its just not true. There are always jobs available, but sometimes there might not be the job that would be your first choice. I like to have people think outside the box and expand on the kind of jobs they are looking for. I was talking to someone some time ago who wanted a job in car mechanics. But they could not find anything. We brainstormed out locations they could apply and they found a job assembly bikes. It was mechanical just not with cars. Sometimes we can get very focused on one thing and forget that there are other jobs that are very similar. Lets say a person wants to work in cleaning. They could look for the following jobs: caretaker, janitor, hotel house keeping, motel house keeping, house cleaning, car detailing, mall and store cleaning, office cleaners, and fire and flood clean up. I could go on. Places to look for cleaning jobs would include, schools, hospitals, stores, restaurants, offices, house, camp cleaning, and more. I suggest that you make a list of possible jobs and locations, you can use the yellow pages or a Google search to get ideas, then start calling and applying. If you need help, you can contact us at the Community Service Centre and we would be happy to help you expand your search. Robert - Vocational Counsellor.
